Gabon from the Sky: Epic Helicopter Adventure

Gabon is rich in forest and also has a spectacular coastline and a broad network of lagunes, meandering rivers, which are allo flowing into the ocean. To see the vast beauty of it, requires you to go up. It’s only from above where one can see and understand the beauty of these delicate ecosystems. While not available in its neighboring countries, Gabon is the only place where you can actually rent a helicopter to go explore the African Atlantic Coastline by yourself, well, with a pilot of course :)!

All our tours start from Libreville and are operated by pilots with decades of experience. For singles and couples we use a smaller model and we have a bigger helicopter for groups up to four people. During your one hour flight you will see the beauty of Pongara National Park with it’s tropical beaches as well as the skyline of Libreville. This amazing wilderness lies just outside of Libreville and apart from a few lodges, is relatively untouched. It’s almost 100.000 hectares big and has a wide variety of plants. We can find mangrove forest, swamp forest, riverine forest and seasonally inundated forest and a small savannah, all guarded by a sandy coastline.

It’s hard to believe that a national park so close to a capital is actually full of wildlife. We can find mammals such as elephants, gorillas, monkeys, buffaloes, duikers and even chimpanzees. The beaches are also visited by leatherback sea turtles for breeding. Needless to say the park is also a sanctuary for tons of bird species.
